Microsoft SkyDrive Bumps up Storage to 25GB
Microsoft has been working real hard on their online storage service SkyDrive. We were told by the SkyDrive Team that an update was coming, and here it is! They’ve increased the storage space for their free service from 5GB to 25GB, making it one among the largest free online storage providers. SkyDrive has opened up for 6 more regions and 13 more languages.
What’s new in SkyDrive:
- Free storage space increase to 25GB
- Windows Live Wave 3 look and feel
- Folders can now be entirely downloaded as ZIP file.
- SkyDrive users can now view photos in beautiful slide show.
- Share files with users who don’t have Windows Live ID
Previously, SkyDrive demanded users to login to their Windows Live ID to view shared stuff, but not anymore. You can share files and folder with anybody with a email address without requiring Windows Live ID. 25GB of free storage is massive indeed, but before you can think of using SkyDrive for backup, let me tell you that individual file size restriction is 50MB, that means your DVDs won’t fit there.
Fake iPhone Nano Already Available in Thailand
Protective case for a small device that resembles iPhone has surfaced online, this leads to the speculation that a smaller iPhone nano might be under construction. While Macworld is still a month, tiny clones of iPhone have already hit the stores in Thailand.
The above is the picture of fake iPhone nano being sold in Thailand. These fakes manufactured by shady Chinese manufactures, not only resemble the iPhone, but the branding “Apple” and iPhone” have also been ripped. The software which runs the phone looks a lot like the real iPhone with similar layout and icons, making it hard for a common man to distinguish when the device is switched off.
iPhone Nano as of now is still under speculation, but if at all a real iPhone nano arrives, it’ll have a hard time dealing with these clones.

Google Released Unlocked Android Phones for Developers
Unlocked G1 will come in dark steel case with slick patterns on the back. This phone will be available for developers in United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, India, Canada, France, Taiwan, Spain, Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Poland and Hungary. There is a tiny catch though, only one phone per account will be provided to prevent these unlocked phones from entering consumer market. I don’t know how far this is going to help in isolating consumer market from unlocked hardware, but my guess is that unlocked G1s will land up in grey market real soon.
Google says “non-developers buying unlocked Android phones for personal use will face issues”. They go on to say “Since the devices can be configured with system software not provided by or supported by Google or any other company, end users operate these devices at their own risk.” LOL!

Plica concept Phone
Move over, iPhone 3G. Should the Plica phone concept actually be realized, it will surely overtake the iPhone's popularity in no time thanks to a dual screen display (hello, DS Lite!). One of those screens is a touch screen keyboard while the other functions as a touch monitor. You can also choose to view an entire web page on a single display or have them spread out across both. It would be interesting to see what kind of battery life the Plica offers, and will it boast even more functionality to rival that of a netbook? Hopefully designer James Piatt's idea will hit a chord with a hardware manufacturer somewhere and actually roll off production lines.
Samsung U900 - New Model 2008
It's exciting times in the mobile phone world. Powerhouse handsets that were announced at Mobile World Congress back in February are finally starting to be shipped, meaning we can get our grubby mitts on them. Billed as their flagship ultra-edition handset for 2008, we managed to curtail ourselves from drooling long enough to see if the Samsung U900 Soul lived up to its hype.
Samsung is quite fond of its slider design, something they have mastered with the likes of the ever popular G600 and U700 handsets. The ‘Soul' continues this fine tradition with a secure sliding mechanism that gives a satisfying sharp clicking sound when it's popped open. Despite the handsets relatively slim chassis, the Soul has a robust feel, and while heavier than both the G600 and U700, it adds to the craftsmanship of the device, rather than feeling too weighty. The bodywork consists of a rubber-like plastic with a brushed-metal finish. It looks phenomenal and could hold its own alongside any fashion phone.
Look and feel
Although a tad heavy in the hand, the Soul's sturdy build suggests a quality of craftsmanship. It looks striking and if you're not happy with the choice of wallpaper, menu interface or font, choose another from the huge range on offer.
Features
A five-megapixel camera with the useful face recognition feature, HSDPA internet speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and a music player endorsed by Bang & Olufsen. The ‘Magic Touch' navigation pad changes according to what feature you're using.
Ease of use
The ‘Magic Touch' navigation pad both looks and feels the part with a haptic response acknowledging a key press. It can take some getting used to moving from the touch-sensitive navi pad to the hard keys that need a firmer press.
Performance
While all the phone's key features - camera, music player and ultra-fast internet speeds - perform to an excellent standard, the Soul's call quality fails to reach the same standards, and the video-recording capabilities also appear to have been neglected.
Battery life
Considering slider phones tend to have a shorter battery life than their candybar and clamshell peers, the 360 minutes talktime and 280 hours standby is more than adequate.

Sony - Walkman NW-S730F
Sony has got a couple of hot devices for the music-feverish geeks. It’s just rolled out two new models of MP3 players which are NW-630F and NWS730. Both these players are flashed-based, having a memory size of 16GB.
The two new MP3 players feature a 2.0 LCD screen, provide direct encoding function (from CD / MD), and FM radio. The two players are compatible with wide variety of formats including MP3 / WMA / ATRAC / ATRAC Advanced lossless / Linear PCM / AAC / HE-AAC audio files, and H.264 / AVC / Mpeg4 videos files. They all come in the dimensions of 89.5×42.9×7.5mm and weighs 46g each.
Sony also introduces the NW-S630FK, which includes speakers and a pair of noise-canceling earphones. The price is still unknown , but the products will get ready for shipping on Oct 11th.
Other than the mentioned MP3 Players, Sony also readies a few new models for its “NAS” (Network Accessible Storage) Audio system, which are NAS-M700HD (550 Euro), NAS-M500HD (420 Euro) and CMT-E300HD (300 Euro). These NAS audio system is similar to the NAS used within your computer network, but this is intended for storing music files.
Both the M500 and M700 come with a storage capacity of 160GB, 4.3 inch LCD screen, and a few ports which are similar to what are found on a “real” NAS such as 2 USB ports, Ethernet. And there are additional for the music which are WM-PORT, analog audio out, headphone out. Both the models have a output power of of 2×20W (Ohm).
The NAS products of Sony also DLNA 1.0 certified which allows you to receive data from any Sony device, such as an MP3 player, and they’re able to reproduce MP3 / ATRAC / WMA audio files. The M700 also features an MD player.
The last model, CMT-E300HD has less features than the first two, that is why it costs cheaper. It’s got 80GB storage, 1 USB port, and it’s unable to reproduce audio files from CD.
Nokia N73
Introduction
At the moment, Nokia is one of the largest mobile phone manufacturers in the world. The most trusted brand, it is one company that produces and launches the maximum number of mobile phones in any given year. All its handsets are designed to rule the various mobile segments and they surely do.
Nokia N series is one of the most renowned series by Nokia. It has featured some power packed and highest selling multimedia devices, such as N70, 71, 73, 75, 80, 90, 91, 95 et al. The Nokia N73 is one such advanced handset by Nokia with multimedia capabilities that can blow your mind away. Sliding away the cover at the back reveals a sexy camera that can click scintillating stills, as well as DVD-quality videos. The camera comes complete with various features such as auto focus, making the camera in the N73 at par with any other stand alone digital camera. The 2.4" diagonal screen is what makes the handset stand apart. It brings to life all your pictures and backgrounds, and also acts as a viewfinder for the phone?s camera.
The MP3 player in the handset is another interesting feature that makes it sell the maximum in its segment that is crowded with feature rich handsets from all top manufacturers in the world. The OS X App iTuneMyWalkman automatically syncs iTunes playlists in the handset. One glitch with the player is that you can only use the official Nokia headphones with the N73. Apart from that, everything else seems alright with the player.
The RealPlayer in the Nokia N73 is used to play videos, but is unable to satisfy the real aficionados. The major lack here is that it doesn?t support most popular video formats, like DivX or QuickTime.
